3. Back Numbering 

To DIY your lapel pins, numbering is often used for big quantity. We note and point this on artwork,

Many textures on back ways to achieve gorgeous artistic effects, about gritty/sand effect on back, here is the example Granulated Background for reference, which also can be used on front metal recessed surface. 

This process is cheaper to administer than sandblasting. The difference is that the pattern is engraved into the mold which is then used to stamp out your pin blanks. As mentioned earlier, the twill back is #6 showing here.  And textures #1 and #2 are mostly used for pins back, especially for iron material, which also resemble sandblasting the closest, the way cost extra charges and effect made on bronze, not ready mold.
